Rich Adams

So I realized I have been looking at a lot of paintings, but I also loooooooove pencil drawings, too. So for the next couple blogs I am going to look at different graphite or colored pencil artists. This first artist is Rich Adams.
Agony
Adams's work is really cool! He definitely has an eye for detail (and the patience to depict it all)! I love how in "Agony" he really captures the emotion of the woman in the drawing. It really does look like a black and white photograph. On his website, for many of his pieces, he adds a description and explanation what his thinking was behind making the piece. Sadly, however, he did not seem to do that for this piece. He has done many other human portraits, but I chose to put this one on the blog because of the strong emotion expressed in it.
Dakota
Adams has also done quite a few drawings of different animals. Again, I like his attention to detail, especially in the textures of the fur or feathers. He also seems to capture the character of the different animals in the drawings.

Saws 'n Bottles
For this picture, he explains on his website that:

"This drawing is more of a study than a completed drawing. It depicts the artifacts found in the                                                    general store at Garnet Ghost Town in Garnet, Montana. I was struck by the juxtaposition of the rough, weathered saws and the bright, shiny bottles. The functional variation of things available in a general store at the time also contributed to the visual impact."

I see what he says about the juxtaposition of the different objects. That is interesting, and there seems to be a repetition in the forms and lines in the drawing, too.
