Gemma Gylling

Yay! Color!! So now we are going to move into the section of blogs looking at artists who like to work with colored pencils! The first artist is Gemma Gylling, and her fantastic drawings of different wildlife.
According to her website, Gylling really loves traveling around and capturing the resident wild life in her artwork.

Baby Face
Oh my word, that baby hippo is adorable!! What character the little guy has! And I love the way Gylling set up the composition of this drawing (as well as the others)! I like that she seems to crop the drawing in a way that you see just enough to understand what is going on, instead of leaving a lot of dead, empty space around the subject matter.
Here's Lookin at Ya
Look at the detail of the feathers on that ostrich!! And also the details on the face. I feel like the ostrich is right in my face.
LOL
I like how she takes a composition like "LOL" and the joke she plays with it. It does look like the zebras are laughing. And all of the lines in that drawing are not too much so they are distracting, but they add interest and, along with the angle of the heads, make the eye move around the drawing a lot.
