Jeff George

So the next colored pencil artist I want to look at is Jeff George. First, I would like to point out his name...it is rather fantastic.
Baggage
Anyways, George's drawings are also rather fantastic, and he covers a variety of different subject matter. We have got old, broken down cars, a match box, dolphins and more! His style is definitely photorealistic.
Death Row
In both "Death Row" and "Shades of Seattle" George uses repetition to add interest to his drawings. I love his portrayal of the water, describing its movement and the light reflecting off of it. I also love how George even captures the splintering parts of the matchsticks and how the edge of the matchbox is wearing out and losing its color.
I remember figuring out that when depicting some subject matter in a piece of art, the more "flaws," incongruences, and unique detail that you can include, the more it will look like the exact subject matter that you are portraying and less like a generalized ideal of the object. George has included the "flaws" of the objects in his drawings and so gotten them to look like the real life subject matter he was basing his drawings off of, and not just an idealized matchbox, or car, etc.
Shades of Seattle

The Return

Western Sky
I love this drawing!! It looks so much like a sepia photograph! His drawings are already photorealistic, so why not use different types of photography styles?
